Always on the move

WERKHAUS cooperates with universities, non-profit organisations, and associations to make the future a little more environmentally friendly.

WERKHAUS appreciates the cooperation with universities and colleges to continue the sustainable development in the company with scientific support, to promote innovations and to enable students to gain experience in a business environment.

With the Bauhaus University Weimar, we designed the P-Bank, an interactive toilet house to extract phosphorus from urine and draw attention to this essential element. Several times we cooperated with Leuphana University Lüneburg in the fields of sustainability and eco-management and organised workshops. For example, students developed new approaches and concepts for further improvement of sustainable business practices and the extension of the product range at WERKHAUS. The key topics included new marketing concepts, a sustainable approach to so-called “second choice” articles and social media, as well as sustainability without compromise for outdoor products. There have also been collaborations with Ostfalia and Universities in Berlin on economic, tourism and design topics.

Socially and environmentally committed

What we learned from the ants… Nature offers the most intelligent solutions for the most diverse challenges – whether in the field of technology or business management. Bionics uses these models from nature and transfers them to technology. In a workshop on organisational bionics as part of the DBU project OrBio with the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and the University of Applied Sciences Bremen, we developed ideas for better communication and interaction processes in 2015 and have already implemented some of them. Our role model from nature was the leafcutter ant.

The company also regularly offers students the opportunity to write their Bachelor’s or Master’s theses. For example, theses have been written on the change of internal logistics processes at WERKHAUS or on sharing possibilities and the WERKBOX shelving system.

We also cooperate with organisations and associations in nature conservation. Since September 2016, WERKHAUS has been a partner of the transnational biosphere reserve Niedersächsische Elbtalaue and a pioneer sponsor of two AgoraNatura projects in Brandenburg. WERKHAUS also takes social and ecological responsibility with its involvement in associations such as the Grüne Werkstatt Wendland, the association of sustainable companies dasselbe in grün e. V. and UnternehmensGrün, the federal association of green economy.
